About John Sandiford
I became interested in photography in order to capture the beauty of what I see outdoors, and started taking it seriously in 2005 using a Canon Digital Rebel camera. I use my photography as an excuse to get outdoors as much as possible.
I have spent my entire life enjoying Mother Nature, and working with her. I have worked outdoors in Alaska, NY State, Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. I have learned to respect her after being stranded in the Arctic Circle for 16 days, or kneeling down to look face to face into the eyes of a black bear in Pennsylvania instead of turning my back to the bear. I have worked in Thule Greenland where three glaciers come together into a bay, Prudhoe Bay AK, the last few islands on the Aleutian chain.
I can say, since I took up photography I notice so much more details when I am among Mother Nature. I notice shadows, colors, and shapes with a keener eye now than before my interest in photography.
I currently use the Cannon 5DMKII, and always shoot my landscape photos with a tripod and multiple exposures in order to capture all of the dynamic range that our eyes see.
I enjoy the technical aspect of modern photography. I shoot all my landscape shots in RAW format and process them as “HDRâ€
